Next Event: TBD at Simi Iceoplex. $25. Beginners welcome. Lessons included. RSVP required!
We hosted 20 people. About half were returning curlers and they started playing games immediately. The other half learned how to curl quickly - first practicing on the wall, and then on the hacks - and they were playing games too within the first hour. Everyone had a great time! The turnout should have been higher but quite a number of the RSVPs did not show up. We are working on a way to reduce that kind of thing in the future, since we had a long wait list and a few people who wanted to come weren't able to even though spots ended up being open due to no-shows.
Special thanks to Jay and the Iceoplex team - they set up with us every time and it is always appreciated. Kate and Marian were teaching and Sharon helped set up the temporary house on the third sheet. Thanks everyone!
We hosted 22 people, and a little more than half were new to curling. The folks who already knew how to curl wasted no time and got the games started quickly and played all night. One batch of new folks learned the game quite quickly and was playing games for most of the night as well. The other batch of new curlers wanted to practice longer and we had a lot of fun sliding off of the hack, sweeping, judging weight (how hard to push the stone), judging curl (how fast to spin the stone), and this group was also playing games by the end of the night. Everyone had a great time!
Special thanks to Jay and the Iceoplex team - they had us set up early and the curling stones were already cooling off, which was a fantastic help. Kate and Marian also showed up and helped teach and run the event all night - they are amazing. And Greg helped me set up the temporary houses so that we could have 3 sheets and fit everyone in. All of your help was greatly appreciated!
We hosted 18 people, all of whom were new to curling. It was a great event! All 3 sheets were used for lessons for the first half of the evening, and then everyone played games for the second half of the evening. Everyone was playing multiple full games by the end of the night and everyone had a blast. Many new curlers were forged today!
Special thanks again to Jay and the Iceoplex team for setting up the ice and giving us the ice time. Marian and Kate helped teach (thanks so much!) and Kate even made a special appearance tonight, which was most welcome. Marian also brought halloween-themed snacks for folks to enjoy (much appreciated!)
Good curling!
We hosted 13 people out of the original 16 who RSVP’d. A few didn’t show, which was disappointing, but we still had enough to run two full games all evening. One new curler learned the game so quick that she was playing in the full games from the very start. Well done!
Special thanks to Jay and the Iceoplex team for setting up the ice and giving us the ice time, and to everyone who helped set up, tear down, teach, and most importantly, to those who showed up and who support curling. We can’t do it without you!
Good curling!
We hosted 23 people and a handful of them were new to curling. 2 sheets were full of experienced players and the 3rd sheet was used for teaching for part of the evening and for a few games for the rest of the evening. Everyone was playing by the time the event was done and there were some great photo-worthy shots that were widely admired.
Special thanks to Jay and the Iceoplex team for setting up the ice and giving us the ice time, and to Kate and Marian for helping organize, teach, and for moral support. And a special shout out to everyone who helped set up, move stones, tear down, move stones back, and contributed to the event being a success.
Good curling!
We hosted 26+ people, 6+ of whom were new to curling. We had 3 sheets going again but tonight the new folks learned so quickly that all 3 sheets were hosting games almost the whole night. Everyone had a fun time and the ice conditions were great! We’ve also got a third pair of new hacks, which means all 3 sheets had modern hacks and we no longer have to use the older hacks that don’t work quite as well. And finally, we got to use a new house-drawing device that one of our members built, so the temporary third sheet that we’ve been breaking out more and more often got a minor upgrade.
Special thanks to Jay and the Iceoplex team for setting up the ice and giving us the ice time, and to Kate and Marian for helping organize, teach, and for moral support. And a special shout out to Chris for helping draw the third house and help get set up.
Good curling!
We hosted 28 people, 12 of whom were new to curling. We had 3 sheets going with lessons and pick-up games. Some new folks jumped into games within a few minutes and other new folks jumped into games after practicing for a while. Everyone who jumped into a game did very well, and some of the games were extremely competitive! One of the sheets had almost every stone ending up in-play almost every game, which is impressive indeed.
Special thanks to Jay and the Iceoplex team for setting up the ice and giving us the ice time, and to Kate and Marian for helping organize, teach, and for moral support. Also, a shout out to Chris, Peyton and Sharon for helping set up, helping run the games, and for everything else they do for our humble little group.
Good curling!
We hosted 21 people, 14 of whom were new to curling. We had 3 sheets going with lessons and pick-up games. By the end of the night, everyone was playing in at least one of the games and everyone had a great time! Special thanks to Jay and the Iceoplex team for setting up the ice and giving us the ice time, and to Kate and Marian for helping organize, teach, and for moral support.
